Watercraft & Recreational Vehicle Insurance

Boat Insurance

Although boat insurance is not required in any state, it’s a smart idea to protect your investment against storms, accidents, passenger injuries, rough seas, hypothermia, etc. The next question is how much insurance and what type of insurance you need or would like to have. As with car insurance, full coverage boat insurance covers almost everything, including theft, fire, accidents, and natural disasters.

If you have the financial ability to absorb unexpected costs or if you simply want to keep your insurance costs low, liability boat insurance will cover costs of damages to other people or property, NOT your own damages. (Full coverage may be required if you are still financing your boat, just like with cars.)

Consider the following:

  • The value of your boat
  • The risks you take while boating
  • The location where you do most of your boating
  • How much insurance you can afford
  • How much cost you can cover should you need repairs

And keep in mind the possibility that you could be sued if others suffer as a result of a boating accident.

Motorcycle Insurance

Motorcycle insurance isn’t a choice – you must have a policy taken out on your bike in order to drive legally. Much like car insurance, liability coverage is mandatory. Collision insurance, comprehensive coverage and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage are optional coverages that you may wish to add to your policy. Below are brief descriptions of the various coverage options for your motorcycle:

Liability Insurance:

This type of insurance covers any damage or injury you may cause to property or other people in the event you are deemed to be at-fault in an accident or collision. However, it doesn’t cover you or your motorcycle. Some policies may include coverage for a guest passenger as well, but this is not guaranteed.

Collision Insurance:

You can add collision insurance to your policy to cover your motorcycle if liability insurance isn’t enough to help you sleep soundly at night. Collision insurance pays for damage to your motorcycle, less your deductible. Even if the damage is your fault, this coverage will still apply.

Comprehensive Coverage:

This coverage protects your bike from non-accident related perils; including fire, theft, and acts of vandalism.

Camper and RV Insurance

Your RV is your home away from home, and it represents a significant investment that you’ll want to protect with the right insurance that fits your unique needs. Should an accident happen – such as property damage, vandalism, or bodily injury as a result of a crash – it’s reassuring to know that your investment is protected.

Types of RVs insured:

  • RVs (recreational vehicles)
  • Motorhomes (Class A, B, & C)
  • Pop-up camper, camper vans, or slide-on camper
  • Travel trailers, bumper pull, or fifth-wheel trailer

Explore new places with confidence knowing that you, your vehicle, your passengers, and your belongings are protected.

Why your recreational vehicle deserves its own RV policy

Most are unaware that their RV is not fully covered by a standard auto policy. To ensure you and your recreational vehicle are best protected, a standalone RV policy should be considered to avoid any coverage gaps. Some benefits of an RV policy are increased personal property coverage, pet injury coverage, and agreed-value coverage.

These policies also include their own bodily injury and property damage limits should an accident occur while the RV is in use or being driven/towed. With these factors in mind, contact us to get a quote on your RV today.

How much does recreational vehicle insurance cost?

There are several key factors that will determine the cost it will take to insure your RV, such as:

  • Recreational vehicle type, year, make, & model
  • Policy details (types of coverage, limits, & deductibles)
  • Your driving history
  • Vehicle usage (seasonal v. full-time resident)

Ask your Carter Glass agent about insurance discounts that you might be eligible for. You may receive a discount for insuring multiple vehicles or bundling your RV policy with other policies.

What’s the difference between recreational and full-time RV insurance?

Recreational insurance is ideal if you do not live in your RV full time. It will protect your RV inside, out, and while on the open road. If your motorhome or travel trailer is your primary residence, then you’ll want to get full-time RV insurance. It’s similar to a recreational insurance policy but you’re able to add on additional coverage such as personal liability and loss assessment that covers RV association fees to help pay for damages to shared areas.

What’s the difference between motorhome and travel trailer insurance?

Motorhomes are a trailer with an engine that can be driven. There are three different classifications (A, B, and C) based on the size of the motorhome. A travel trailer does not have an engine and must be pulled by another vehicle. Both insurance policies help protect different types of recreational vehicles.

I have been a customer for 40 years with Carter Glass. The agent I have worked with for the past decade or so is Pam. She is wonderful! She has really treated me right. I would say five stars, but like everything else, the industry itself has changed, and I can't say those changes have helped the average customer.
